system-based works in physical & high-resolution digital forms.

Greyfade is a music label and publisher that takes as its basic premise the idea of a music release as a complete conceptual universe, integrating sound, compositional architecture, visual design, and text into a single object worthy of sustained engagement.

Founded in 2019 by musician, producer, and designer Joseph Branciforte, the label’s roster includes a network of artists exploring procedural composition, acoustic & electronic minimalism, alternative tuning systems, and custom technological frameworks for composition and performance.

In 2024, Greyfade introduced a new music release format called FOLIO—a 6.5 x 8” linen hardcover book with included digital music download—that seeks to answer the question: why release music in physical form today? Equal parts album release, critical text, making-of narrative, study score, and collectible art object, the FOLIO format represents a renewal of Greyfade’s commitment to the continued relevance of both thoughtfully designed physical objects and high-resolution digital music, bringing greater context and depth to the label’s most ambitious musical projects.

Greyfade invites deep and sustained attention to the intersection of procedural composition, minimalism, and improvisation—with meticulous design and production standards that match the quality, originality and restraint of the music. — Philip Watson, The Wire

Greyfade’s aesthetic, encapusulated in the gorgeously crisp designs of its record sleeves, holds in tension both digital and analogue realms. — Tim Rutherford-Johnson

greyfade editions: proposals

greyfade maintains a limited release schedule, with most projects developed through direct invitation and ongoing collaborations. if you’re interested in submitting a proposal for consideration, however, you may do so here. we are particularly interested in:

• works shaped by system design, formal constraint, tuning, code, or custom technological frameworks.
• projects that treat release format itself as part of the compositional frame.

unfortunately, we are not able to respond to all submissions.

please do not use email to submit or follow up on proposals. if we feel your work is a possible fit for the label, we will be in touch directly.
